Virginia Tech

I don't know how much international news people follow here, but the tragedy in the USA at Virginia Tech was terrible. I can't believe anyone could just want to kill another person. This guy killed 20 or more. I don't think I will go to college in the USA. I will stay in Canada or go to Europe.

I heard he killed about 33 people including himself and I think there must follow some laws in America about owning and using handguns, rifles or something like that. The last few weeks I spent in America and my guest family showed me that it is no problem for your to buy a weapon and ammo....they had five rifles and a handgun...
To buy a gun you go to the shop. After you bought the gun you have to wait five days if you never bought a gun before to take it with you. If you already bought a gun before you can take it with you and theoretically use it after you left the store...

This guy in Virginia was something like crazy or he kind of lost the reality. But I think it is no reason to say that you dont want to study in America. Some similar things can even happen in Germany or Canada...as the past shows...

it can happen to you anywhere anytime

there are just too many people out there who are capable of doing shitty things like this. you're not safe - anywhere.

the question we have to ask us now: why did he do this? can we help depressive outcasts finding friends instead of making fun of them all the time about all sorts of things? ?(

RE: it can happen to you anywhere anytime

i think this is a very difficult theme...i cannot understand neither killing other people nor killing themselve. i think that especially in the usa they have to change the law of owning weapons...of course thats not the main point that some people do that...if they want to kill poeple like he did he would have got the wepaons by another (illegal) way... if i had to change something i don´t know where i would have to start at...

I also think that changing a law would not prevent any amok run BUT i think the usa has to take POSITION to the fact, that its not okay if everyone could buy weapons, olthough it would increase black market.
On the other side, in cause of this newest amok run, we also have a politican here in Austria, who would like to allow everyone to buy weapons. He has the argument, that everyone should be possible to defend his home by using weapons.
For me, thats kind of great shit.

However i fear that there is no button we can press to change anything that downtrodden and broken teenager dont get crazy and make such things becaus the reasons for that are very deep locked in the society and influenced by capitalism who forces humen to be more and more egoistic and make them fewer sensible for the desideratum of teenagers, who are overloaded with impressions of their enviroment. (including all kind of media)

I think that this is true about it could happen anywhere, it seems the US media goes a long way to put this kind of stuff on television, it was a big deal in my country's media. I don't know how to use a gun, I havn't seen one up close, toy guns maybe. But people should be allowed to protect thier homes, however, where do you draw the line as to carrying it with you. Once it leaves your home it is not protecting the home. I think this is where things get complicated.

Being mentally ill is certainly a factor with this guy, so he must have thought he had a good reason to do all the killing. I guess we will never understand. :(

I guess the main reason for this amok run wasn't the guy himself. Mainly the school staff and the police did not keep an eye on this guy. As I heard the guy had been in a psycological hospital but they didn't recognize his "social disease"...
The second thing is that they missed to catch him after he killed the first two people...

Stupid situation but I think its not mainly the thing that you can buy a weapon...
Lots of Americans have weapons as I told but if you want you CAN get a weapon even if they are not sold without a special license...

I understand from the news, they want to start school soon again. This will probably be hard and strange feeling for everyone there. :(

Everybody has been talking about it here too. Its really sad. As a student, I wouldn't say not to go to school in the US. It could have happened anywhere.

Gun control is a big issue in the US, especially here in Florida. People here are allowed to carry weapons and use force, I believe. But it will probably never change. The "right to bear arms" is in our constitution. It all ties back to our heritage, and while I feel its stupid, and would never own a gun unless it was somehow necessary, anybody would have a hard time convincing the American public that they should not have such a right.

But as somebody said, we have to pray for those who died along with the killer. He was probably a very troubled person. And we need to treat others better so they will not get to such a point of despair. We cannot blame his school for what happened, and it is silly and ignorant to do so.

It seems like in school organizations you always have the kids who like to pick on others, and the ones always being picked on. I think the kids doing the picking on don't stop to think what trouble they are causing to a person because they are busy making themselves look cool, or they think they look cool. The fact of the matter is, they don't. If people could get in there heads to accept everyone no matter how they look or act, we could all live together more peacfully.

Probably you're right but it is possible that we learn from our mistakes and we can change the world though. It is possible to make the world a better place to live in.
Nobody wants a perfect world, I hope.
We just have to do something.

A perfect world is bad, there is no challenges if everything is perfect. It's just to bad that someone could feel so bad about themself, that they would go all out to take someones elses life. Maybe some good will come of this if we learn to see that someone needs help before they go to far. We can only hope this will be the case. ?(
